Student Internship Program
Each year, the 145 Foundation for Education offers internship opportunities to Waverly High School juniors and seniors who are interested in learning how a nonprofit organization supports students, educators, and schools throughout School District 145.
This unique leadership opportunity allows students to serve alongside community leaders as members of the Foundation's Board of Directors while gaining firsthand experience in nonprofit governance, philanthropy, fundraising, scholarship administration, and community engagement. Interns have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the educational experience of students across the district while developing valuable professional and leadership skills.
As a Student Intern, you will be encouraged to share your ideas, contribute your unique talents, and participate in discussions that help shape the Foundation's work. In return, the Foundation is committed to supporting your future goals by providing mentorship, guidance, and letters of recommendation as you pursue college, military service, technical training, or career opportunities after graduation.
Successful applicants demonstrate executive function skills, a desire to learn, a strong work ethic, leadership potential, and a passion for making a positive difference in their school and community.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. After submission, applications are reviewed by the Executive Director and members of the Foundation's Executive Committee. Applicants selected to move forward in the process will be contacted by the Foundation President to schedule an in-person interview, typically within two weeks of application submission.
We encourage all interested Waverly High School juniors and seniors to apply and become part of the work that helps empower students for life!
Student interns should expect to commit a minimum of 20 hours during the year. Interns are expected to attend quarterly Foundation Board meetings, as well as meetings for their assigned committee. Board meetings are typically held early on Saturday mornings, while committee meetings are generally held on weekday evenings. Additional time may be required for Foundation projects, events, and other internship-related responsibilities.
If selected, a student must have parent or guardian permission to participate in the internship program.
