School District 145 Foundation for Education’s Viking Discovery Program Welcomes New Director

October 23, 2017 – The School District 145 Foundation for Education would like to welcome Krystal Rash as the new Director of the Viking Discovery Program.

The Viking Discovery Program (VDP) is a before/after school and summer program operated by the Foundation.  As Director, Krystal will directly oversee the 15 staff members who care for 170 students at Waverly Intermediate, Hamlow Elementary and Eagle Elementary.

For the past 11 years, Krystal has worked with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) of Lancaster County – six years as Volunteer Coordinator and five years as a CASA volunteer.  In addition to her work with CASA, she is currently serving on the Village of Eagle Board of Trustees and has volunteered in many roles for the Parents and Teachers of Eagle Elementary organization.  Krystal currently attends Doane College as a double major in Human Relations and Public Administration.  She and her husband, Jason, have two children who attend school in District 145.

“I’m stepping into a well-built program, one that has run under great guidance and direction for years. I look forward to opportunity to continue with the tradition of excellence as well as the opportunity to enhance the program in the years to come,” shared Krystal.

“Krystal’s vast experience with children and families, non-profit program development, and government compliance makes her a great fit as Viking Discovery Program Director,” said Sara Martin, School District 145 Foundation Executive Director. “The Foundation is excited to have her on board.”

School District 145 Foundation for Education

Now Accepting Grant Applications

September 29, 2017 – The School District 145 Foundation for Education has announced that grant applications are now being accepted from teachers and students in the District.  The Foundation is also excited to announce the new Principal’s Excellence Fund.

Each year, a total of up to $15,000 is available through the Classroom Grant Program.  Teachers can apply for up to $2,000 to fund a variety of classroom projects, including new technology and seed money to pilot new innovative ways to deliver curricula.  Last year, grants were awarded to purchase STEM resources, a high quality sports lens for journalism students, a microphone system for drama students, I-pads for art students, and much more.  Classroom grant applications will open on September 20th and close October 18th.

Waverly High School students are encouraged to submit grant applications at any time during the school year.  The purpose of the Student Grant Program is to provide financial assistance for unique, innovative learning and leadership opportunities for students or school organizations, not otherwise available through School District 145 or other resources. The maximum grant amount is $250 per individual or organization.

The online applications for teachers and students can be found at www.dist145ffe.org.

New this year, the Foundation established the Principal’s Excellence Fund to provide monies to each school in the District.  Principals from Waverly High, Waverly Middle, Waverly Intermediate, Hamlow Elementary, and Eagle Elementary may request up to $3,000 each for purchases that will benefit their classrooms, students, and school.

This funding to support District 145 schools is possible because of generous donations to the Foundation, proceeds from the Foundation’s Annual Golf Tournament, and through the operation of the Viking Discovery Program.

Dr. Cory Worrell, School District 145 Superintendent, shared, "The School District 145 Foundation for Education is a tremendous support for our students, staff and communities. They provide us the opportunity to enhance what is taking place in our classrooms and buildings.  We are grateful for their continued support and look forward to even greater opportunities in the future."

“We thank the donors, parents who entrust us with their children in the Viking Discovery Program, and golf tournament sponsors and players, “said Sara Martin, the Foundation’s Executive Director.  “They make our work possible.”
